About this place
Sinking a pair of chopsticks into a freshly grilled chijimi reveals a pleasant contrast between its crisp, lightly blistered crust and its tender, chewy center. Located in the residential streets of Oizumigakuencho, Gohyan centers its tables around savory staples like these and samgyeopsal grilled on specialized tabletop pans that let the rendering fat drain away. Wrapping slices of pork belly with kimchi and scallions in crisp lettuce leaves makes for a thoroughly satisfying bite, easily rounded out with tightly packed Korean kimbap or small drinking plates for groups to share.
Simmered stews and broths offer plenty of depth. The sundubu-jjigae, made with soft silken tofu, keeps its chili heat balanced to let the savory dashi stock come through. For dining around a communal pot, the kitchen prepares ingredient-packed budae-jjigae and hearty gamjatang, simmered slowly from pork spine and potatoes. Both pair naturally with cold draft makgeolli or beer.
Beyond classic Korean staples, the menu features a wide selection of yakiniku cuts such as premium skirt steak, salted tongue, and kalbi ribs. Dinner service begins at 17:00, providing an unhurried setting to settle into warm dishes and drinks into the evening.
